Tikal l’endormie..

May 11, 2014 · by Jacques.L

The vegetation has entirely covered the site. How was it before, we don't know..

Hard to believe that Tikal was built by the Mayan between 800BC to 900AD.

The largest Maya site in Guatemala : Tikal

April 19, 2014 · by Jacques.L

Getting from Atitlan to Tikal was not an easy journey.

We reached safely Guatemala City and had to wait the whole afternoon before we could embark in the double deck bus.. Which never left due to mechanical issue…  We had to change bus 2 hours later then the bus company ended up understanding that the engine bus was almost dead…

By 9am we arrived at Flores, nice little city located on the shore of the Peten Itza lake and still 64 km away from the entrance of Tilkal park.

We found an hotel (not best class..), source a driver with a van to get us to the park as we have only today to visit the ruin…time flies…

We finally reached the ruins by mid day just to be welcomed by the rain! The weather is quite hot and humide and our two bottles of water are not enough…

Only one of the temple (I think number IV if I remember) can be climbed… The access to the top of the others is closed.. following some deadly accident a few years ago..

The view from the temple IV leaves you breathless… Maybe the typical view that the Maya used to see everyday..
