We have roughly drafted our itinerary through Southeast and South Asia, South Africa, Central and South America…
As we kept added new countries, the list of vaccines to get was getting longer and longer..
The final list as below:
- Yellow fever (required for South and Central America)
- Hepatitis A
- Typhoid (Common in southern Asia, Indonesia and Peru)
- Tetanus, diphteria, pertussis and polio
When you look on internet, the more information you are getting about heath issues while travelling, the more scary it is….
A nice booklet designed and written by a large multinational pharmaceutical company lists all the potential infections that you can contract during your trip (www.travellers-help.com)
- Traveller’s diarrhoea
- and more..
Not sure after that you still want to go travelling…
Obviously if you want to prevent from these diseases, you end up with a large bill after visiting your doctor and chemist..
In our case, total cost of vaccines (rabies vaccine requires three boosters to be active): 700$ Au
Medicine wise, the Malarone used to prevent from Malaria costs 70$ for a box of 12 pills. This covers you for only 5 days… ouch…
